Alicia Keys launches ‘Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee’ storytelling app for kids

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Alicia Keys is launching a storytelling app for kids.

“The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee” is about a young New York City girl’s relationship with her wise grandmother. It will be released Thursday for $3.99 and is inspired by Keys’ relationship with her grandmother.

The interactive app is centred in LeeLee’s bedroom. It allows users to read books, play music and write in a journal.

Keys said after giving birth to her son two years ago she wanted to create learning tools for children.

She said in an interview Wednesday raising her son was part of the app’s inspiration because she has been introducing him to children’s TV shows and DVDs. The 14-time Grammy Award winner says she thought of creating a TV show or film but making an app for kids is “limitless.”
