Mistaken target of West Kelowna home invasion attack remains in coma

WEST KELOWNA – Hospital sources say the West Kelowna man who was beaten near death when he was mistaken for someone else during a home invasion in December is still in a coma.

The two victims, a married couple in their late 50s, were asleep in their home on the 1100 block of Peak Point Drive just before 2 a.m., Dec. 6, 2015.

Cpl. Joe Duncan told media at the time the husband and wife both suffered “serious injuries” in the attack but would not comment on the number of attackers or if weapons were used.

He said within days of the attack a second home invasion took place next door and investigators believe the victims were mistaken for someone else. No one was home during the second break-in and nothing was reported stolen.

“There is no evidence it was random," he said.

Two separate sources say the husband was brought in with head injuries that morning and has been in a coma ever since. His wife was also badly injured but has since been released.

Numerous recent calls to RCMP were not returned.
