Deputy involved in fatal shooting in Kentucky on paid leave

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Authorities say a sheriff’s deputy who fatally shot a crowbar-wielding burglary suspect at a Kentucky church has been with the department since last year.
In a news release Monday, Kentucky State Police identified the Shelby County deputy as 24-year-old Corey Williams. Williams has been placed on routine leave during the investigation.
The release notes that Williams has worked for the sheriff’s office since June 2015 and is a graduate of the Department of Criminal Justice Training.
Police say Williams shot 22-year-old Dylan M. Dalzell last Friday at Simpsonville Baptist Church when Dalzell refused commands to drop the crowbar and moved toward the deputy.
The shooting occurred early Friday at the church, which also had been broken into the night before.
Police say three alleged accomplices serving as lookouts were arrested.
Both Williams and Dalzell are white.
