DeadMau5, Travis Scott, Lil Yachty headline 2017 BUKU fest

NEW ORLEANS – Electronic music producer Deadmau5 and hip hop artists Travis Scott, Young Thug and Lil Yachty are among the headliners for the 2017 installment of the BUKU Music + Art Project, which fuses electronic, hip hop and indie rock in New Orleans’ warehouse district.

Organizers on Tuesday unveiled the lineup , which also includes 21 Savage, Zeds Dead, Sleigh Bells, Tycho and Nina Kraviz. Additional performers will be announced after the new year.

The event is scheduled March 10-11 on indoor and outdoor stages set against an industrial backdrop along the Mississippi River. Tickets go on sale Thursday.

Each year, a portion of ticket proceeds support The Upbeat Academy Foundation, an educational program for New Orleans youth that teaches the technical and creative skills of music production. In 2016, BUKU raised over $17,000.

Going into its sixth year, festival co-founder Dante DiPasquale said their staying power is primarily due to the fans.

“I think we’ve seen a sort of culture built around BUKU that people relate to,” he said. “It’s grown into more than just an event that happens yearly. It’s become a lifestyle, an attitude that represents a creativity and progressiveness of the subculture of post-Katrina New Orleans.”

The event also showcases New Orleans food, pop-up street performers and curated, one-of-a-kind art installations by local artists.

“I think we’re probably one of the more unique festival sites in the country,” DiPasquale said. “Things are moving all around and it feels like it’s an underground secret party, but it’s somewhere you should be right in the middle of. It’s a super cool experience.”

General admission ticketing is priced at $179.99 for a two-day pass. BUKU also has created a variety of VIP ticket options, including exclusive access to the S.S. BUKU, a riverboat docked alongside the festival. Those options range from $269.99 to $599.99.
