2 Mexican cousins get life in US prisons over 2013 slaying
FORT WORTH, Texas – Prosecutors say two 60-year-old cousins from Mexico must serve life terms in U.S. prisons for helping set up the 2013 Texas slaying of an attorney who once led a drug cartel.
Jesus Gerardo Ledezma-Cepeda was sentenced Tuesday in Fort Worth. Ledezma-Cepeda in May was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder for hire in what prosecutors say involved electronic stalking of the victim.
Juan Jesus Guerrero Chapa was fatally shot while loading shopping bags into his parked SUV in Southlake, near Dallas. His attacker remains at large.
Prosecutors say Ledezma-Cepeda and his cousin, Jose Luis Cepeda-Cortes, helped arrange the killing. Cepeda-Cortes was convicted of interstate stalking, conspiracy to commit murder for hire and tampering with documents or proceedings. He was sentenced last week to life in prison.
