Fire destroys trailer near Peachland

PEACHLAND – No fire departments responded to a trailer fire near Peachland yesterday morning.

The blaze in the Paradise Valley/Trepanier area around 8 a.m., Feb. 5, started with an explosion, according to a Facebook post from a neighbour.

Rachel Matkin says the place next door was engulfed in flames and burned to the ground, but nobody was hurt.

The blaze received no firefighter response because it is outside any fire protection area, Regional District Central Okanagan spokesperson Bruce Smith says in an email.

Smith says a person was living on the property, but it was determined no lives were in danger so it was allowed to burn.

He says the occupant is in the care of Emergency Social Services.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
