Five seriously injured in Coquihalla car crash

MERRITT – Five people were taken to hospital with serious injuries after their car crashed early this morning on the Coquihalla Highway with both alcohol and speed considered factors.

RCMP say a northbound Honda Civic crashed at about 1 a.m., Feb. 7, on Highway 5 near the Mine Creek exit between Merritt and Hope.

The five people in the car were taken to hospitals in Merritt and Kamloops with serious injuries, according to a RCMP media release. All five people are from the Lower Mainland.

“Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in this collision,” Cpl. Tim Lyons with RCMP Central Interior Traffic Services says in the release. “It is fortunate that no other vehicles were involved in this incident.”
