Man who approached child near Kamloops school had no harmful intentions

KAMLOOPS – The person who was the subject of an investigation after a report of a suspicious man near a Kamloops elementary school of any wrongdoing by RCMP.

Police say they have identified the man and spoken with him, determining he had no harmful intentions towards a little girl he talked to near Marion Schilling Elementary School in Valleyview on Feb. 3.

RCMP reported a man walking a dog approached a six-year-old girl when she was a short distance away from her mother. The man spoke to the girl about finding her parents and let her pet the dog.

Once the mother approached the two, the girl ran back to her mother and the man ran away.

“(He) understands why his actions may have been perceived as suspicious,” Cpl. Cheryl Bush says in a media release.
