MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says interstate highways will likely suffer the biggest traffic backups over the Fourth of July weekend.
The Marshfield News-Herald (http://mnhne.ws/29gwOTS ) reports that the American Automobile Association estimates that nearly 43 million Americans will travel this weekend.
Don Greuel with the state transportation department says other roadways may also see high traffic volume because of detours around construction areas.
According to Greuel, most highway projects will be put on hold for the holiday weekend, which will help keep traffic moving.
Director of the department’s Bureau of Transportation Safety David Pabst says the Wisconsin State Patrol and other law enforcement agencies will be out throughout the entire weekend to enforce speeding, tailgating, distracted driving, seat belt use and drunken driving laws.
