Just horsin’ around at an Armstrong drive-thru

'I FELT BAD BECAUSE I DIDN’T HAVE ANYTHING FOR THE HORSES'

ARMSTRONG – You’d think it was part of the script for an A&W commercial, but a horse and buggy making use of a drive-thru over the Family Day long weekend was just a classic Armstrong affair.

A man and his dog, pulled by two horses, appeared at the Armstrong A&W drive-thru Sunday, Feb. 7.  Alex Baird, 17, was the surprised employee who took the gentleman’s order.

“He just smiled and was polite, just like a normal customer,” she says.

She says the horses were very well-mannered as the man waited for his food to come out.

“I felt bad because I didn’t have anything for the horses,” she says.

Baird says it was the first time she’s seen a horse and buggy come through the drive-thru in her two years working at the restaurant, although it’s been known to happen before.

“They used to come through fairly regularly. For a while it happened about once a month, but it’s been a couple months since we’ve seen it, and I never actually personally saw it before. I was like ‘oh, that’s an interesting thing to have happen on a Sunday.’”

She says it’s likely a sight you’d only see in towns like Armstrong.

“I feel like it’s probably something that wouldn’t shock as many people in Armstrong,” she says.
