On way out, Obama puts top aides on Kennedy Center board

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama is putting two of his top aides on the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts during his last week in office.

The White House says Obama is appointing national security adviser Susan Rice to the centre’s Board of Trustees. He’s also appointing Valerie Jarrett, his senior adviser and longtime family friend.

Obama is naming former NBA player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and 11 other people to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition.

Obama is also adding other former and current White House staffers to federal boards and councils, including the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. He’s naming his deputy national security adviser, Ben Rhodes, to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.

None of the positions require Senate confirmation.
