Physician assistant jailed for selling $710K in painkillers
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – A New York physician assistant who pocketed $710,000 by illegally selling the painkiller oxycodone has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Michael Troyan pleaded guilty in June to conspiring to illegally distribute the drugs. He was sentenced Friday on Long Island.
Among his co-conspirators was a town councilman who also pleaded guilty and received two years in prison.
Federal prosecutors say Troyan issued prescriptions for thousands of oxycodone pills that were later sold illegally. They say he was captured on video in an undercover investigation accepting large amounts of cash at his Riverhead office.
The drug sales took place between 2011 and 2015.
Former Southampton town councilman Bradley Bender pleaded guilty last June.
Troyan also was ordered to surrender the $710,000 he made from the illegal drug sales.
