Suspicious vehicle leads to multiple charges in Penticton

PENTICTON – Three people are facing a variety of theft and drug charges after a suspicious vehicle was stopped outside a Penticton residence last week.

Members of the Penticton RCMP detachment’s drug task force unit checked the Manitoba plates of the vehicle, which had been parked on Beames Lane, Friday, Feb. 5, and found the plates belonged to another vehicle, Penticton RCMP media spokesperson Don Wrigglesworth says.

When it left the residence the driver was stopped and police discovered outstanding Alberta and Saskatchewan warrants for the male driver, who also had no insurance or drivers license. He was also found in possession of methamphetamine.

One of two female passengers in the vehicle had outstanding warrants out of Penticton, and was also found with meth, cocaine, heroin and stolen credit cards. A search of the second woman revealed cocaine and fentanyl on her person.

The driver and one of the women were released on a promise to appear. The other woman was held for Judiciary Justice of the Peace hearing prior to being released on conditions.

The license plate on the suspect vehicle was stolen from a vehicle out of Brandon, Man., sometime between Jan. 21 and 24. The vehicle from which the plates came from was recovered in Kelowna Jan. 28.
