Accused pleads not guilty in child sexual assault case

VERNON – A man has pleaded not guilty to charges of sexually assaulting a young girl.

Corey W. Krause appeared in Vernon Supreme Court today facing charges of sexual interference of a person under 14, invitation to sexual touching, sexual exploitation and sexual assault.

The complainant cannot be named because of a ban protecting her identity, but she was under 14 when the alleged sexual assault took place in Vernon between the years of 2003 and 2005. Krause is represented by defense lawyer Juan O'Quinn.

Crown lawyer Chris Balison will be calling the complainant and two other witnesses.

Supreme Court Justice Allan Betton said the the trial is scheduled for five days, with evidence beginning Wednesday. Krause is being tried before a judge and jury.
