Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,300.30 up 0.07 point):

Whitecap Resources Inc. (TSX:WCP). Oil and gas. Up 46 cents, or 6.15 per cent, at $7.94 on 11,658,792 shares. The Calgary-based company said that it will sell its non-core assets for $56.4 million and will increase its credit facility by 13 per cent to $450 million. It says the move will give Whitecap ‘significant financial flexibility’ for ongoing operations into 2013.

Progress Energy Resources Corp. (TSX:PRQ). Oil and gas. Down 37 cents, or 1.98 per cent, at $18.36 on 5,712,912 shares. The Calgary-based company’s stock continue to slide since the federal government blocked a proposed $6-billion takeover by Malaysian state-owned oil company Petronas last week.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Gold producer. Up nine cents, or 2.22 per cent, at $4.14 on 4,753,675 shares.

Viterra Inc. (TSX:VT). Grain handler. Up eight cents, or 0.51 per cent, at $15.64 on 3,807,174 shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Unchanged at $3.73 on 3,486,445 shares.

Lundin Mining Corp. (TSX:LUN). Miner. Up four cents, or 0.77 per cent, at $5.21 on 3,463,658 shares. The company announced Thursday its third-quarter profits more than doubled to $37.9 million or seven cents per share while revenue increased to $159.6 million from $669.7 million.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,300.84 down 4.71 points):

Poynt Corp. (TSXV:PYN). Mobile search and advertising. Down half a cent, or 25 per cent, at 1.5 cents on 8,276,673 shares.

DOT Resources Ltd. (TSXV:DOT). Copper explorer. Down half a cent, or 12.50 per cent, at 3.5 cents on 3,748,169 shares.

Companies reporting major news:

BCE Communications (TSX:BCE). Up 14 cents, or 0.33 per cent, at $42.92 on 1,646,685 shares. The union representing workers of Bell TV, one of Canada’s largest satellite and fibre-optic TV services, said they have voted to accept their first collective agreement reached earlier this week. The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union said the workers, who have been locked out since July 11, approved the deal Thursday.

Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY). Bank. Down eight cents, or 0.14 per cent, at $56.83 on 1,740,089 shares. Reports say Canada’s biggest largest bank has been served with a subpoena from U.S. state officials as part of their probe into the possible manipulation of a key benchmark used to set interest rates.

TransAlta Corp. (TSX:TA). Power generator. Up 49 cents, or 3.22 per cent, at $15.71 on 843,089 shares. The Calgary-based company formed a strategic partnership with an American company to build gas-fired power plants in Canada. TransAlta also announced net income attributable to common shareholders in the June-September period totalled $56 million or 24 cents per diluted share versus year-earlier $50 million or 22 cents per share. Revenue dropped 14 per cent to $538 million.
