Kamloops woman wins trip to Grammys

KAMLOOPS – A Kamloops woman is heading to the Grammys this weekend.

Brianne Sheppard won a trip to the music awards show on the Breakfast Television show on City TV in Vancounver on Feb. 4 thanks to her song lyric knowledge. She’s now on her way to LA with three friends thanks to contest sponsor Rogers Communications.

“They’ve planned everything out for us,” she says. “They lined up a limo for us to get the quintessential LA trip.”

She’s looking forward to the awards night as well, in particular Lady Gaga’s David Bowie tribute. Sheppard’s also looking forward to seeing some celebrities, in particular one singer.

“Adele for me because I didn’t get tickets for her concert here,” she says.

She says the live broadcast lyrics competition was stressful. When she showed up at the station she still didn’t know what the competition would be.

“I was terrified, I could barely remember my name,” she says. “I had a lot of pressure because it was going to be win or lose.“

Sheppard, a photographer and mother of two young boys, had to make a music video for the Sing to Win contest to be selected for the appearance on Breakfast Television.

“It wasn’t all luck, I put a lot of effort into entering this contest,” Sheppard says.

The effort worked out, as she was told the prize value was $38,000.
