Laurikainen makes 39 saves as the Broncos down the Ice 5-2

CRANBROOK, B.C. – Eetu Laurikainen stopped 39-of-41 shots, earning the game’s first star, as the Swift Current Broncos downed the host Kootenay Ice 5-2 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Laurikainen was at his best in the opening period as he turned away 25-of-26 shots in the opening 20 minutes to help his club jump out to an early 3-1 lead.

Levi Bews, Chance Lund, Colby Cave, Reece Scarlett and Dillon Heatherington all scored for the Broncos (6-6-4) while Richard Nedomlel chipped in with two assists.

Jon Martin and Levi Cable scored for the Ice (4-9-0), who lost their fourth game in a row.

Mackenzie Skapski made 20 saves in a losing effort.

Swift Current went 2-for-3 on the power play while Kootenay scored once on seven chances with the man advantage.
