Former CFL defensive lineman, McGill coach Ray Baillie dies at 80
EDMONTON – Former CFL defensive lineman Ray Baillie has died at the age of 80.
The Edmonton Eskimos announced his passing on Monday night.
The Montreal native played 91 games over nine seasons in the CFL, starting his professional career with the Calgary Stampeders in 1954.
He also played for the Montreal Alouettes (1956-57, 1960-61, 1965), Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1957) and Edmonton (1962-63).
Baillie went into coaching with his twin brother Charlie at McGill University in 1965. Charlie was head coach of the Redmen while Ray was the defensive co-ordinator in the 1970s.
In 1973, the Baillies led McGill to the Vanier Cup National Final. Ray also taught part-time at McGill’s faculty of education, as well as coached football and taught history at Chomedey High School in Laval, Que.
