RCMP warn parents to watch for drug paraphernalia in Kelowna parks

KELOWNA – With the weather warming up kids are heading back into the parks around Kelowna, and police are warning parents to keep an eye out for needles and other drug paraphernalia left behind by addicts.

Officers were called to Rutland Lions Park on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 13, when someone found some empty packaging 'typically associated to illegal drug use,' according to a media release.

No hypodermic needles were found, police say.

"Kelowna RCMP would simply like to remind parents to be extra observant when attending parks and public spaces with their children, and educate their children on avoiding potentially hazardous items," Const. Jesse O'Donaghey says in the release. "It's always a best practice to walk the area and search for any hazards before allowing your children to play.”
