Penticton man to be sentenced for manslaughter

PENTICTON – Michael Beauchamp pled guilty to manslaughter in connection to the 2009 beating death of Terrence Dale Wooley.

The crime took place only a few dozen yards from the Penticton courthouse where Beauchamp was in custody on Monday. Justice Jeanne Watchuk and Crown counsel John Swanson listened to Beauchamp plead guilty to manslaughter and several other charges in connection to an unrelated matter.

Wooley's family was in court today to hear the plea. They said they would speak to reporters on Friday.

Beauchamp was facing a count of second-degree murder but now faces the lesser charge of manslaughter. He is expected back in court on Friday, June 28 9 a.m. for sentencing.

He also plead guilty to assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, assault and mischief.
