Spring-like weather sticking around in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – Above-normal temperatures are expected to stick around at least a little longer in Kamloops, and that means another weekend of somewhat spring-like weather.

Environment Canada is calling for a high of 8 Celsius today, Feb. 19, and temperatures of up to 7 C over the rest of the weekend. Overnight temperatures are expected to dip as low as -3 C on Saturday night but will be closer to 0 C tonight and Sunday night. Seasonal normal temperatures at this time of year range from a high of 5 C to a low of -4 C.

The weather office is calling for a chance of showers late this afternoon through early evening, with the rest of the weekend expected to be a mix of sun and cloud.

Expect highs of around -4 C at Sun Peaks this weekend, along with flurries today and a mix of sun and cloud the rest of the weekend while backcountry users can expect moderate to considerable avalanche risk throughout the Interior, according to Avalanche Canada forecasts.

If you’re heading out on the highways this weekend watch for frost heaves through Glacier National Park and debris on several Interior highways, including Highway 5 between the Great Bear Snowshed and Hope. Drive B.C. is currently reporting a mix of compact snow, foggy sections and slippery sections across Interior highways, along with black ice on Highway 97 from Highway 1 to south of Falkland.
