Man tasered in Penticton mall attack enters a guilty plea
PENTICTON – A man facing several charges stemming from an attack last month at Cherry Lane Mall pleaded guilty to one of the charges in Penticton court today.
Danny Douglas Ross appeared by video, Feb. 19, and pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose prior to the ordering of a pre-sentence report by Judge Robin Smith.
Police were called to the mall after receiving reports of a 78-year-old man being punched in the head in an unprovoked attack. Officers found Ross in the parking lot, threatening people with a pair of scissors. He was tasered when he refused to comply with police commands.
Ross was ordered to undergo a psychiatric examination in January following his arrest.
He also entered a guilty plea on a charge of causing a disturbance, stemming from a separate incident that took place Dec. 17, 2015.
His next court appearance is Feb. 24.
