Vernon gets whopping amount of June rain

VERNON – It was a wet week, but things are looking brighter.

Between Monday and Friday of last week, 56.6 mm of rain drenched the region. So far, June has seen 63.7 mm fall in total, somewhat higher than normal. The Vernon Coldstream Ranch weather station reports the average monthly precipitation for June to be 53.9 mm. The Vernon Bella Vista station gives an average of 46.2 mm and the Vernon station 42.4 mm. Rainfall may vary within the Greater Vernon area, but it has definitely been up this June.

Heavy rainfall and hail this month have taken their toll on Okanagan farmers who say crops have been ruined by the unusual weather.

But sunshine is in the forecast. While Tuesday and Wednesday have a risk of thunderstorms, Wednesday through to Monday are predicted to be sunny and hot.

Thursday is expected to reach a high of 26 C, climbing to 30 C on Friday and 32 C on the weekend. Agriculturalists are hoping for warmth to sweeten up their fruits and berries, and it looks like that's exactly what nature will be serving up later this week.
