Penticton realtor easily wins Conservative nomination in new federal riding

PENTICTON – Members of the federal Conservative party in the new riding of South Okanagan-West Kootenay have picked Marshall Neufeld as their candidate in a landslide.

The Penticton real estate agent grabbed 88 per cent of 649 votes cast at nomination meetings in Castlegar, Grand Forks, Osoyoos and Penticton.

Neufeld handily beat his only challenger West Kelowna district councillor Rick de Jong.

In a speech at the nomination meeting in Penticton Saturday night, Neufeld told the party faithful the riding is winnable for the Conservative party, “If there is a high enough voter turnout.”

Connie Denesiuk was the only candidate to declare for the Liberals and has been acclaimed.

The New Democrats will nominate their candidate in October.

The next federal election will be held in October of 2015.
