MONTREAL – Telefilm Canada has vowed to reflect more diversity on screen in the next four years.
On Thursday, the Crown corporation announced a goal to build, by 2020, “a more representative and diversified feature film portfolio that better reflects gender, diversity and Canada’s indigenous communities.”
The plan includes focusing on how to enhance existing diversity initiatives.
Telefilm has also established industry partnerships to support representation and diversity in Canadian cinema, in areas including promotion, professional development and research.
“Building a portfolio that better reflects Canadian society is a priority for us,” Carolle Brabant, Telefilm’s executive director, said in a statement.
“I’m very pleased to see that the industry is committed to change.”
