Man charged after allegedly striking fire hydrant, speeding and doing donuts in Vernon

VERNON – A man accused of taking a wild and reckless drive through a Vernon neighbourhood is facing charges.

Back in November 2015, police reported a 53-year-old man was arrested after allegedly speeding, doing donuts, and striking a power pole, fire hydrant, tree and another vehicle before fleeing the scene. The incident occurred in the 1700 block of Kosmina Road.

A witness told iNFOnews.ca the rampage looked like “something out of a movie.”

The driver was arrested shortly after the incident and subsequently released while police continued to investigate.

Charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle, failing to remain at the scene and assaulting a peace officer have now been laid against the driver, Bradley Dean Smart.

Smart is next due in Vernon Provincial Court March 10. The allegations against him have not been proven in court.
