Valleyview, Juniper Ridge residents to have input on Owl Road Landfill future

KAMLOOPS – Residents in Valleyview and Juniper Ridge are being asked to sound off on the resource recovery centre slated for their neighbourhoods.

City transportation coordinator Colleen Lepik says the main purpose of the meetings are to hear concerns and ideas from residents on access to the centre.

“What we are looking at is maintaining access where it is now off Owl Road or off Highland Drive,” she says. “A decision hasn’t been made on the access at this point.”

She says she expects there to be discussions about safety and traffic volume around the new centre, which will primarily collecting construction material.

“It’s more oriented towards construction but I believe there will be aspects of residential collection,” Lepik says.

The presentations will be back to back. On March 1 there’s one from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Valleyview Secondary School library. The next day, March 2, the session will be at the Juniper Ridge Elementary community room, also from 6 to 8 p.m.

Lepik says the sessions will not have presentations but will be based around a drop-in style with poster boards and tables.

In January the city finished purchasing the Owl Road Landfill and will be transitioning it to a resource recovery centre.
