Botanie Creek wildfire evacuation alerts dropped
KAMLOOPS – The people living near the Botanie Creek wildfire north of Lytton are no longer under an evacuation alert.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has rescinded the alert for the 120 people who were evacuated because of the blaze and allowed to return home just last week. It has also been dropped for those properties under the alert since July 17.
The 1,389 hectare fire is currently 50 per cent contained but isn’t growing as 153 firefighters, 2 helicopters and 6 pieces of heavy equipment continue to extinguish hot spots.
The fire destroyed a house and a couple of outbuildings last weekend, according to B.C. Wildfire Management.
While the cause of the wildfire is under investigation, it’s suspected to be person-caused.
