NEW YORK – A smash-and-grab robber at a New York City jewelry store had a little trouble with the smashing part.
Surveillance video shows two men wearing overcoats, hats and sunglasses as they entered the store on Madison Avenue on Monday morning.
Police say one of the men pulled a handgun out and ordered employees to lie on the floor while the second man used a claw hammer to try to smash the glass on two display cases.
The video shows the hammer-wielding man struggling to break through the glass. He finally succeeds and grabs some merchandise.
Police say the thieves made off with five watches valued at more than $300,000. No injuries were reported.
The two suspects remain at large.
