Kelowna RCMP officer facing assault charge

KELOWNA – A police officer in Kelowna has been charged with assault in connection with an arrest he made last May.

Cpl. Chris Williams will appear in court on March 22 to face a charge of common assault, according to a media release from RCMP Supt. Nick Romanchuk.

The assault charge comes after an investigation into Williams’ handling of a man he arrested on May 29, 2015.

Williams is on administrative leave and "the matter is also being dealt with through a “code of conduct process,” Romanchuk says in the release.

The RCMP will not be commenting further about the charge against one of their own saying the matter is before the courts.
