SAO PAULO – Carlos Franklin Paixao Araujo, ex-husband of Brazilian former President Dilma Rousseff, has died in a hospital at age 79.
The Sao Francisco Hospital in the southern city of Porto Alegre says Araujo died Saturday of complications related to cirrhosis. It did not give further details.
Araujo was a labour lawyer and a former state legislator for the Democratic Labor Party.
He and Rousseff divorced in 2000 after a 20-year marriage. They had a daughter and two grandsons.
Rousseff has not commented publicly on her former husband’s death.
Last year she was impeached on charges of illegally managing the federal budget and removed from office.
