THOMPSON-OKANAGAN – NDP MP Nathan Cullen is crisscrossing B.C., opening up conversation about stopping the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline.
The Take Back Our Coast event takes place May 21, 7 p.m. at the Shatford Centre Auditorium, 760 Main Street, Penticton. At noon, May 22, Cullen will be at the Vernon Recreation Centre, 3310 37 Ave. He arrives in Kamloops at 7:30 p.m., bringing the discussion to St. Andrews On The Square, 159 Seymour St.
The proposed pipeline route begins in Bruderheim, Alta., just north of Edmonton and takes a relatively direct, westernly route through B.C. to Kitimat. Those opposing the pipeline say there are environmental concerns about leaks along the route and disaster if a tanker leaving Kitimat spills its cargo into the ocean.
Cullen's Take the Coast Back website states 60 per cent of the population of B.C. is against the pipeline as well as 130 First Nations.
