West Kelowna man drowns in Okanagan Lake

WEST KELOWNA – A man seen diving into Okanagan Lake died after not resurfacing last night.

A 40-year-old West Kelowna man was pulled from the wharf area near Gellatly Bay when witnesses called 911 saying they didn’t see him resurface after he dived in around 8 p.m., March 1.

Emergency crews pulled him out of the water and brought him to shore, where CPR was performed and he was transported to hospital. He was transported in the care of advanced life support, but died of his injuries.

It is believed he had been at the bottom of the lake for more than half an hour when he was pulled from the cold waters, according to an RCMP release.

West Kelowna RCMP and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate.
