Fake gun triggers RCMP response downtown

KAMLOOPS – There was swift action downtown this morning after RCMP received a call that a man was walking near Interior Savings Centre with a sawed-off shotgun.

The report came in just before 10 a.m. and soon after officers discovered the man with two others behind the building located near the corner of 3 Avenue and Lorne Street. Members seized two “airsoft” BB guns, one of which looked similar to a sawed-off shotgun.

"Unfortunately they make these things so realistic," says Const. Jason Epp, a spokesperson for the Kamloops RCMP. "We always have to treat it as if it's a real firearm."

The three men are known to police and remain in custody.

RCMP would like to remind the public not to display false firearms because they can be mistaken for a real guns and trigger a police response.
