Jackie Chan lends celebrity support to Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics bid

BEIJING, China – Action movie star Jackie Chan is throwing his support behind Beijing’s bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, even recording a song promoting the campaign.

Chan appeared Wednesday with bid officials to introduce his new tune “Wake Up Winter,” saying he was prepared to help the bid in any way he could.

“It’s a big honour and pleasure to participate in this and do something for the Winter Olympics bidding,” the 60-year-old Chan said. “If there is anything I can do, I will be there every time.”

Best known for performing his own stunts in more than 100 movies, Chan also has recorded albums in English, Mandarin and Cantonese. He was a big booster of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, where he sang at the closing ceremony.

Beijing is aiming to become the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics and is considered the favourite in this election over sole rival Almaty, Kazakhstan, despite its notorious pollution and a lack of natural snow.

The winner will be announced July 31 in Malaysia.
