UPDATE: Two young women killed in Vernon rollover

VERNON – Two young people were killed in a rollover early this morning on Highway 6 in Vernon.

RCMP say at about 1:27 a.m., March 6, a 2013 GMC Sierra pickup truck with five people inside, eastbound on Highway 6, rolled at Waddington Drive.

The truck couldn’t make a curve in the road, hit the shoulder and rolled several times, according to a RCMP media release.

Two, 20-year-old women were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not been released.

No charges have been laid against the 21-year-old Armstrong man behind the wheel, but he is under investigation, police say.

RCMP say there is an indication alcohol and speed could have been contributing factors

A B.C. Emergency Health Services spokesperson says two people were taken to hospital by ambulance in stable condition.

The highway was closed in both directions for several hours and was fully reopened by 6:30 a.m.
