Chiefs rename broadcast booths in honour of Len Dawson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Chiefs renamed the broadcast booths at Arrowhead Stadium in honour of Hall of Fame player and broadcaster Len Dawson before their game against the Denver Broncos on Monday night.

The 82-year-old Dawson joined the Dallas Texans in 1962 and followed the franchise to Kansas City, where he led the renamed Chiefs to a championship in Super Bowl IV. He also moonlighted as a sportscaster for local TV and continued with that career once his playing days were over.

He went into the Hall of Fame as a player in 1987 and a broadcaster in 2012, and announced earlier this year that he would retire as a radio colour analyst after the season.

Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt called Dawson “a part of every major moment in Chiefs history,” while fellow Hall of Fame players Jan Stenerud, Willie Lanier, Bobby Bell and Curley Culp were also on hand.

“I really don’t know what to say,” Dawson said, “because it’s a great, great honour for me.”
