SPANISH FORT, Ala. – An Alabama school superintendent says he’s “horrified” by a racist, anti-gay video linked to a student.
Local media report the video was released through social media by a student in Spanish Fort. In a statement, Baldwin County Superintendent Eddie Tyler says officials have spoken with the parents. He says they’re “mortified,” by the video, which includes racial slurs and suggests a mass genocide of homosexuals.
Tyler says the video wasn’t produced on school property and doesn’t have any connection to school. He says educators can’t discuss any resulting disciplinary action.
The local NAACP president, Alec Barnett, tells WKRG-TV the response is inadequate and the student should be suspended.
Spanish Fort High School students held a protest over the video Monday, and the city police chief spoke at a student assembly.
