UPDATE: RCMP arrest distraught man in Penticton

PENTICTON – Penticton RCMP shut down a portion of Martin Street earlier today while they dealt with a distraight man at the Fairlane Apartments.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says in a media release police attended the residence of the man at about 10:45 a.m., March 7, after a call from a federal government agency.

A worker at the unidentified agency told police a client had become distraught during a telephone conversation.

Members of the RCMP were able to talk to the man by phone and after a lengthy conversation convinced him to leave his apartment, Moskaluk says.

Prior to talking the man out of his residence, police secured the area around the apartment block, including taping off Martin Street between White and Eckhardt Avenues.

Moskaluk says the 51-year-old man was taken into custody without incident. Officers found a pellet gun replica of a revolver in the apartment.

The man was transported to Penticton Regional Hospital.
