Kamloops RCMP looking into downtown house fire
KAMLOOPS – The investigation into a downtown house fire has now been turned over to Kamloops RCMP.
Around 12:25 a.m., March 5, Kamloops Fire Rescue responded to a fire call at a home on Fifth Avenue and Nicola Street.
Platoon Capt. Steve Kilmartin says there was a couch on fire on the house’s back deck. Two individuals saw the fire and banged on the front door. When no one answered, he says the pair entered the house.
“They found a gentleman asleep in one of the bedrooms,” he says.
The man was rescued from the house, which had filled up with smoke. A fire investigator was on scene yesterday, March 7. Kilmartin says since the investigation, the scene was passed on to Kamloops RCMP. He did not provide details on how the fire started.
A spokesperson from Kamloops RCMP was not available to comment.
