Shane McColgan scores in overtime as Saskatoon Blades down Kootenay Ice 3-2

CRANBROOK, B.C. – Shane McColgan scored in overtime as the Saskatoon Blades edged the Kootenay Ice 3-2 in Western Hockey League action on Friday.

Josh Nicholls had two goals for Saskatoon (7-9-0) in regulation time and assisted on the winner.

Erik Benoit and Jordyn Boyd scored for Kootenay (4-8-1).

McColgan skated out from behind the net and scored the winner as the Ice lost their fifth game in a row.

The Ice opened the scoring midway through the first period as Zach McPhee fed Boyd in the slot and he scored with a wristshot on the glove side. Last year both players played for Everett.

The Blades tied the game with short-handed breakaway goal by Nicholls.

Saskatoon took a 2-1 lead early in the second as Nicholls got his second of the game on a pass from Stransky.

Benoit stepped into a wristshot midway through the third to tie the game and force the extra period.
