Human remains identified as those of Vernon man presumed drowned five years ago
CHERRYVILLE – The remains of a Vernon man presumed drowned five years ago have finally been found.
Charles Lee Scott, 32 went missing and was presumed drowned in Cherry Creek in 2011, according to a media release from the B.C. Coroners Service. Despite extensive searches, his body wasn’t found.
In June 2015, human remains were discovered on the bank of Cherry Creek near Hanson Park, but they weren't immediately connected to Scott.
It wasn't until a recent initiative by the B.C. Coroner Service’s identification and disaster response unit and International Commission on Missing Persons that a DNA profile was produced, and the remains officially identified as Scott's.
Scott’s family has been notified and the B.C. Coroners Service continues to investigate his death.
