About 60 NC State students showing symptoms of norovirus

RALEIGH, N.C. – Officials at North Carolina State University say about 60 students have shown symptoms of norovirus.

A statement from the school on Friday said a number of students have reported experiencing gastrointestinal illness since Tuesday. Wake County Human Services confirmed that it was norovirus.

The statement said most students affected live in Alexander Hall, but officials said additional cases have been reported at several on- and off-campus housing locations.

Norovirus is a contagious virus that causes stomach pain, nausea and diarrhea. The most effective way to stop the spread is to practice good hand-washing and personal hygiene.

School officials say any students who show symptoms should remain in their rooms. On-campus students should contact their residence advisers, and any students experiencing persistent, severe vomiting or diarrhea should seek medical attention.
