Gentle musical comedy ‘Dames at Sea’ heading to Broadway under direction of Randy Skinner
NEW YORK, N.Y. – “Dames at Sea,” a spoof of the Busby Berkeley spectacles, is setting sail for Broadway.
Infinity Theatre Company and Perry Street Theatricals said Tuesday that the musical will play the Helen Hayes Theatre starting Sept. 24. It will be directed and choreographed by three-time Tony Award-nominee Randy Skinner.
The show was a big hit off-Broadway in 1968 and launched Bernadette Peters’ career. It has buoyant music by Jim Wise and book and lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller.
No cast was announced.
The gently mocking score goes after such specific styles as the torch song, “That Mister Man of Mine”; the love duet, “It’s You”; and the perennial optimistic number sung when everything looks the bleakest, “Good Times Are Here to Stay.”
