Fatal crash on Coquihalla Highway south of Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – One person is dead and another injured after a single vehicle crash on Highway 5 south of Kamloops this morning.

RCMP say at about 6:28 a.m., March 12, the driver of a vehicle headed towards Kamloops lost control, crossed the southbound lanes and went over an embankment.

The crash happened about 27 kilometres south of the city near the Inks Lake brake check, according to a RCMP media release.

The passenger was killed and the driver was taken to hospital. No word on how badly the person was injured. No identities have been released.

A RCMP collision reconstructionist is investigating, but police say alcohol is believed to be involved.

The southbound lanes of Highway 5 are expected to be closed until about 1 p.m., police say.
