Ex-soldier guilty of killing man intervening after shooting

ARLINGTON, Texas – A former soldier has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for fatally shooting a bystander who tried to intervene after the serviceman shot and wounded his wife near Dallas.

A judge in Fort Worth issued the sentence Thursday for 24-year-old Ricci Bradden. He’d been found guilty of murder in the 2016 death of 35-year-old Anthony “T.J.” Antell, who was a former Marine.

Bradden was also convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police have said Antell saw Bradden shoot at his wife’s feet, striking her once, during an argument outside of a Walgreens. Police say Antell retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and confronted Bradden in an attempt to make a citizen’s arrest.

Investigators say Bradden slapped the gun away and fatally shot Antell. Bradden claimed self-defence.
