TV stars Jane Lynch and Zachary Levi tout upcoming Global lineup
TORONTO – Jane Lynch says she hasn’t completely let go of her over-the-top “Glee” character Sue Sylvester.
The comedienne says she may revive the character for a comedy bit, so she can wear one of the three track suits she nabbed from the defunct show’s wardrobe.
“I was just talking to somebody yesterday and they’re putting some kind of skit together and I might do this,” Lynch said Wednesday during a stop in Toronto to promote her new Global/CBS show, “Angel From Hell.”
“If it happens I will definitely be doing it. I was like, ‘Oh good, I’ve got a trackie.’”
Lynch, who wrapped her run on “Glee” in March, plays another offbeat coach of sorts in “Angel From Hell.” This time she portrays wisecracking Amy, guardian angel to an uptight doctor named Allison, played by Maggie Lawson.
In some ways, the loud-mouthed Amy is an alternate, more supportive version of Sue, says Lynch. She even noted similarities in the script that she pointed out to writer Tad Quill.
“There were some lines in the script that were actually — and Tad’s never seen ‘Glee’ — that were words that I had used and phrases, kind of pop words and phrases I had used as Sue Sylvester. And I said, ‘Can I change those?’ And he said, ‘Of course, go ahead,’” she relates.
“It’s like the best of Sue Sylvester is who Amy is, absolutely. And also what I love about playing Amy is it looks like I’m going to have one outfit like I did playing Sue Sylvester. Maybe I change the T-shirt. That’s about it.”
Lynch was one of several stars Shaw Media turned to Wednesday to help promote the upcoming fall and winter schedule for its flagship network Global and suite of specialty channels, including Showcase, History, Food Network Canada, Slice and HGTV Canada.
Former “Grey’s Anatomy” star Melissa George was on hand to discuss her new medical series “Heartbreaker” while “Chuck” alum Zachary Levi met reporters to discuss “Heroes: Reborn.” Both shows hit Global in the fall.
Despite the star-power, the rollout was low-key compared to previous years, when Shaw traditionally hosted one of the splashier media events along with a similarly celeb-stacked stage show and party for advertisers. This time, Shaw announced the lineup by press release late Monday and dispensed with the usual press conference for each star.
Rogers Media was similarly muted with its annual announcement Tuesday, bolstered by appearances from Abigail Breslin from the horror-comedy “Scream Queens” and Robert Patrick of “Scorpion.”
Bell Media announced the bulk of its CTV and CTV Two roster by press release last month. More details are promised Thursday at a media event hosted at its Queen Street studio.
CBC announced its TV lineup last week with the help of comics Bruce McCulloch and Will Sasso in one of its downtown studios.
