Canadiens defenceman Pateryn to miss eight weeks with ankle fracture

Montreal Canadiens defenceman Greg Pateryn is expected to be out of action eight weeks with a fractured ankle, the NHL club announced Thursday.

Pateryn was hit in the ankle by a shot during a 3-2 overtime loss Tuesday night in St. Louis.

The 26-year-old had one goal and four assists in 19 games this season. He has two goals and 10 assists in 77 NHL games with Montreal.

He is the third player to suffer a long term injury in the past week. Centres Alex Galchenyuk and David Desharnais are both expected to miss six to eight weeks with knee injuries.
