Mixed bag of weather for the Okanagan this week

OKANAGAN – The week kicks off with a chance of snow but is expected to end with above normal temperatures and lots of sunshine.

Environment Canada is calling for highs to be near or at the seasonal normal high temperature of 9 Celsius today, March 14, with the mercury expected to rise to 12 C by the end of the week. Overnight lows are expected to fall to 1 C today, just above the seasonal normal low of 0 C, but temperatures are expected to drop to between -3 C and -5 C the rest of the week.

Across the Okanagan Valley skies are expected to be mostly cloudy today, along with a chance of showers. There is also a risk of snow today, with the snow level expected to rise to between 900 metres and 1,000 m today. The snow level will rise only slightly Tuesday, when the chance of precipitation is expected to persist, while sunshine is in the forecast for the rest of the week.

While we are only expecting a chance of rain or flurries in the valley bottoms today, Drive B.C. is warning of winter driving conditions on the Coquihalla Highway. Currently highway reports are showing compact snow and slushy sections throughout the stretch from the Coquihalla Summit to Kamloops. Compact snow and slushy sections are also being reported on other Interior highways.
