NASHVILLE – Police say a man fired several times with a gun while barricaded in a Tennessee apartment building, grazing an officer with one of the shots.
Metro Nashville Police say 29-year-old Justin D. Jones surrendered to SWAT officers Wednesday. One round struck Officer Gerry Hutcheson’s shoulder without penetrating his skin.
Police say surveillance video showed Jones shooting into the ground outside while talking with his 11-year-old daughter before officers arrived. Police say Jones re-entered his apartment, refused commands and continued shooting.
Police say they had no contact with Jones for three hours before he surrendered.
According to police, Jones is on parole and has three prior robbery convictions, one in Nashville and two in Ohio.
He’s charged with felony aggravated assault.
It wasn’t immediately known if Jones has a lawyer.
